Beat the Heat this Summer at Typhoon Texas

5 Ways to Stay Cool in the Texas sun:

  1. Have a game day indoors with puzzles and board games that haven’t been played with in a while.
  2. Take a trip to an indoor museum or aquarium for a day out that doesn’t involve the brutal Texas sun.
  3. Make ice blocks and play with them in the water table or just in the backyard! Fill milk cartons or balloons with water and freeze for a cooling sensory activity to enjoy on a warm day. My girls love this simple activity that we found in The Toddler’s Busy Book. (I love this book and use it all the time!)
  4. Finger-paint in the bathtub and then have fun rinsing the tub and munchkins with water! We do a lot of art at my house in the summers.
  5. Head over to Typhoon Texas in Katy, TX for a fun-filled family day! (Don’t forget to get your exclusive iQuriousKids.com discounted tickets here .)

My husband and I took our girls to Typhoon Texas this Saturday. Even though the girls are both under three which could be a little young for a water park, we were all able to enjoy a lot of activities! Even on a Saturday, there was plenty of space without feeling cramped. With our toddlers, we were able to enjoy the wave pool, the lazy river, the Gully Washer (bigger splash pad/water playground) and the Splash Pad! Our 2-year-old’s favorites were the giant snakes in the smaller splash pad area. We really enjoyed the easy access to free, tiny life jackets at all of the deeper water areas, the water-sprayed roads so you don’t burn your toes, and the abundance of covered seating and tables! Even on a busy Saturday, there were plenty of tables and chairs to sit at under shade which is usually unheard of at any theme park. One thing that was really amazing was that even though the heat index was 106 degrees outside, I can honestly say that none of us felt hot for even one minute of our time. The refreshing water and shade actually had us feeling chilly at times which is a pretty amazing feat for a June day in Houston! All in all, it was a great day to be able to be outdoors without feeling like you’re going to melt. This mama has been dodging requests to go to the playground for a few days since it has been so so hot, but visiting Typhoon Texas allowed the girls to run around and play in the outdoors without any of us feeling like we were going to have a heat stroke. I do wish they opened a little earlier for families with younger kiddos, but the restrooms (actually, the whole park) were really clean, the food was priced pretty average and tasty, the lines and crowds were minimal and the size of the park was really manageable for a family with young children, so we’ll definitely be back!

  • Water shoes for the littles- keeps their toes safe from burns/scrapes and helps keep them from slipping on any of the play features.

  • Baby Food/Baby Snacks and Swim Diapers
  • Swim Cover-ups

Tell us: What’s your favorite way to beat the heat in the Texas summer?
